Shannon Howard accepts Competitive Challenge after turning 40

Shannon Howard’s motto is “Dare me to a competition and I accept that challenge.” Howard is a personal trainer and nutritional consultant for Mike and Jan Horn at Personal Training and Nutrition World off Schillingers Road in Mobile.

After turning 40 years old on December 12, Howard plans to compete in the Bodybuilding division at the Steel World in May and will compete Nationally in the Figure division during the 2010 season as well.

She is a single mother of three that has been a figure competitor since 2005.  The first show she competed in was “Steel World” in Mobile where she placed first in the open class for her height and first in the over 35 class, and finished second in the overall open class.

Howard also competed in the Heart of Dixie in Foley in 2007 then competed in the Southern Classic in Jackson, MS and Southeastern Classic in Gadsden in 2008. In 2009, she competed in “Steel World” in Mobile and finished first place in the open and over 35 classes and took second place by one point in the overall at the Southern Classic in Jackson, which qualified her to compete nationally in 2010.

“I love to compete and I love all that goes into it,” Howard said.  “It is a way to keep my mind focused and in check and have a goal set before me to be in better condition at 40 than I was at 20.”

Howard tells her Personal Training Clients to make the goals they have a reality.   “Everyone, I mean everyone, can be in the best shape of their lives and there is no physical or emotional condition that weight training cannot overcome,” she said.  “I believe that with the right trainer, you can make a host of physical problems better or disappear all together such as diabetes, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, arthritis, etc.”
